I can’t thank you enough for supporting my short stories over the past few months. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want this newsletter to be and how I envision it growing. I wrote about this in an issue that went out over Thanksgiving, but as I continue to share my own experiences I want to bring in others who can share theirs as well. That way, you and I both can learn. From there I would love to expand into podcasting, interviewing guests to explore where their own individual persistence of vision has led them over the years.
That’s my goal.
As I continue to work on meeting those goals, I’ve made the decision to turn on paid subscription plans for this newsletter.
What does that mean?
Ultimately, that choice is entirely up to you. If you would like to continue reading for free, you can. You will still receive approximately two stories per month. With a paid subscription you get extra benefits:
You’ll have access to the entire archive.
You’ll have access to bonus subscriber-only stories.
You’ll be able to post comments on each story and participate in subscriber-only chats (so be sure to download the Substack app to your phone or tablet).
You’ll have the good feeling of knowing that a portion of your payments will go toward supporting the next generation of filmmakers at Desoto Arts Institute.
So what is Desoto Arts Institue?
DAI is a wonderful non-profit whose mission is to teach students all aspects of video and film production. In short, they’re the resource I wished I had when I was a teenager. Here’s a summary of what they’re all about:
Imagine a place where anyone can learn to write, act, shoot, and produce film and music. Imagine having access to a fully-equipped sound stage and recording studio, right here in your community. Imagine a recording studio staffed with producers and engineers with decades of experience producing music legends. Imagine motion picture directors, cinematographers, and VFX supervisors teaching you and your children how to work in the industry while making a difference in the world and your community.
If you like what you’ve been reading here, and you want to support my work and student filmmakers, consider upgrading your subscription to paid.
Thanks.
